The Mets will be spending the next week in New York with 3 games at home vs the division leading Phillies and then going across town to play the Yanks. While the Mets are limping through June, there is enough talent and guts on this team to at least salvage a split this week.
The big reason that this is possible is that guy. Yep, Johan Santana again. The Mets will once again have to depend on Johan to carry the Mets on his back as he will pitch twice this week.
The bats will have to wake up and provide Johan an early cushion. With a lead, Johan is almost impossible to beat.
The Phillies are good but they have holes. The Phillies starters are average at best and Brad Lidge will be on the DL for the next couple weeks. The Mets have the advantage on the mound against the Phillies. They will have to prove that their bats can keep pace with a Phillies lineup that is up there with one of the best in the league.
Already 3 games back, the Mets must win 2 out of 3 against their division rival. Regardless of how well the Phillies and Yanks are playing, the Mets always seem play them tough.
